Digital Revolution and Music:
YouTube, Mashups, and the Aesthetics of Artificial Intelligence

Where is the digital revolution taking music?

The rapid advance of technology continues to give birth to new musical forms and aesthetics that were previously unimaginable. Music, long considered a sound art, is blurring its boundaries with a variety of media, and unexpected changes are occurring in the way we consume and judge music, including online performance and copyright issues. The proliferation of artificial intelligence is also causing us to question whether composing and performing will continue to be defined as exclusively human activities in the future, and what the nature of music really is.

"The Digital Revolution and Music" explores the impact of digital technologies on music, focusing on YouTube, mashups, and artificial intelligence. With contributions from musicologists, composers, philosophers, YouTubers, and others, this book offers original aesthetic reflections on contemporary music, examining the musical changes sparked by the digital revolution from the perspectives of creation, performance, and reception.
