002 | Contemporary East Asian Music in the Global Era (2015)

A Guide to Music in Our Times.
Discuss the musical identity of East Asia in the global era.

It is a global era. Now that the boundaries between nations are relaxed, and the world society is gaining one independent dimension by exchanging political, economic and cultural, has national identity or cultural identity disappeared? Then what about music? Has Oriental music, which used to be considered a confrontation between Western music, now converged and blurred its boundaries? Does the universal common sense that music reflects history and society no longer prevail?

This book is the result of these questions. The book, which was supplemented by Korean and European scholars at the International Music Society (IMS) in Rome in 2012, has been influenced by the West, but discusses the interculturality of "Korea, China (including Taiwan) and Japan's modern music."

Korea, China, and Japan are not only geographically close but also historically similar countries that have embraced Western music based on the basis of similar experiences. It is a very important task to consider contemporary music trends in East Asia at a time when Asian music becomes important in the global era of the 21st century.

In this book, experts from various countries consider contemporary music from Korea, China, and Japan through international projects. Writers from 10 countries, including Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States and Germany, participate to reflect international interest in modern music.
